Message from the CEO and the Chair of the Board of Directors
Nearly 400 million journeys with the STIB

In a particularly complex institutional and budgetary context in Brussels, the STIB confirmed its central role in Brussels mobility and its commitment to serving the region in 2025. More than ever, it demonstrated its ability to move forward and renew itself while always keeping customer satisfaction in mind.

With nearly 400 million journeys made, ridership on the STIB network remained at a very high level, close to that of 2024. After neutralising the disruption caused by several social movements against the authorities and the effects of major construction works, the upward trend continued with more than one million journeys made daily. The increase in public transport use is particularly noticeable in the metro and bus network, as the tram network has been affected by several line closures due to maintenance and track renewal. These encouraging results were made possible by the arrival of new trams, buses and metros, which have substantially increased the capacity of the STIB network, and of course by the commitment of the employees who drive these vehicles, maintain them and ensure that all the cogs in our public transport company run smoothly. The past year has also been marked by symbolic moments such as the first anniversary of includo, the team that supports people experiencing homelessness on the network, and that of tram line 10, which stands out as the busiest tram line on the network.

2025 also saw the launch of the new Business Plan. Structured around three pillars – the customer, talents and the sustainability of the company – it sets a clear course for the years to come. Putting the customer at the heart of every decision, developing and promoting the skills of the women and men who bring the STIB to life on a daily basis, and ensuring the sustainable and responsible development of the company: these are the ambitions that guide the actions of each and every STIB employee.

Looking ahead to 2026, our priority is clear: to focus our efforts on our travellers and on the quality and reliability of our service, in order to remain the reference in terms of mobility in Brussels. This 2025 annual report reflects the work we have accomplished, without obscuring the challenges that lie ahead. Together, with the commitment of all our staff and the trust of our travellers, we will continue to keep Brussels moving.
