Audio announcements for improving information

While it may seem logical to look at the waiting time displays or the destination indicators on vehicles in order to see which line and from which direction the vehicle is approaching, the reality for people who are visually impaired or who have difficulty reading is quite different.

In order to make it easier for them to travel independently, the STIB has deployed a new voice announcement system on its most recent tram models (T3000 and T4000) trams, as well as the 5 most recent series of buses. When they arrive at the stop, these vehicles broadcast an audio message informing passengers of the line and the direction.

The deployment of this new system is part of the STIB's strategic plan to make the network accessible to people with special needs, which will ultimately benefit all travellers.
